While there are cafes aplenty in Malaysia’s capital city, good ones are few and far between. One of my favourites is Pulp by Papa Palheta, despite the obvious irony of travelling to KL for coffee at a Singaporean joint. It’s situated at Art Printing Works, a 63-year-old commercial printing factory, which houses The Royal Press and The Alphabet Press too.

On a side note, I love their series of business cards printed by The Royal Press, and I still use them as bookmarks today.

Over at VCR, their single origin coffee is consistently smooth and well-pulled, and The King Cake is a crowd pleaser. On my return visit, I had their French Toast, and it was absolutely delightful. It has since become a ritual for me to grab a bottle of The Tapping Tapir’s natural sodas to go, as I brace myself for the tropical heat.

VCR
2 Jalan Galloway
Open daily 08:30 – 23:00

The Kitchen Table is a small, homey restaurant and bakery. Its clean and minimalistic decor looks as if it came straight out of a Kinfolk magazine. Skip the coffee, but order every single cake possible. I’d love to go back and try their lunch/dinner menu, if only they weren’t located so far away from city centre.
